Anlässlich des 60-jährigen Jubiläums der Stadtjugendkapelle Herzogenaurach wurde der Komponist Mathias Wehr mit einer Auftragskomposition betraut.
Als inhaltliche Grundlage diente eine Sage rund um die Eichelmühlgasse – jenen Ort, an dem heute das Vereinsheim der Stadtjugendkapelle Herzogenaurach steht. Die Überlieferung wurde dankenswerterweise vom Heimatverein Herzogenaurach e.V. zur Verfügung gestellt.

Dort unten im Eichelmühlgässchen
Es war wohl vor Jahren schon
Da sollte einer umgraben
Die Erde im Tageslohn
Schon ging’s auf die Mittagsstunde
Die Sonne, die brannte so heiß
Dem Ärmsten lief von der Stirne
In hellen Bächen der Schweiß
Auf einmal stand vor ihm ein Männchen
Es war wie ein Zwerg so klein
Das deutete auf eine Stelle
Und sagte: Grab da hinein!
Und ehe der Mann sich besonnen
Da war es schon wieder fort
Doch er wagte nicht zu graben
Ihm war jetzt unheimlich der Ort
Er eilte geschwind nach Hause
Und suchte nach seinem Weib
Ihn packten jetzt quälende Zweifel
Die Sorge um Seele und Leib
Die beiden besprachen sich lange
Sie ratschlagten hin und her
Ob nicht das Ganze am Ende
Ein Werk des Teufels wär`
Dann suchten sie aus der Lade
Das Evangelium
Sie nahmen es mit zu der Stelle
Und jetzt grub der Mann erst um
Und siehe, da fanden sie Münzen
Aus einer vergangenen Zeit
Sie trugen den Schatz nach Hause
Und wurden so reiche Leut`
Und wenn sie nicht gestorben
So leben sie wohl noch heut`
Der Komponist
Anlässlich des 60-jährigen Jubiläums der Stadtjugendkapelle Herzogen-aurach konnte der renommierte Komponist und Dirigent Mathias Wehr (*1984) mit einer Auftrags-komposition gewonnen werden. Der in Deutschland und Italien lebende Künstler ist international gefragt: Seine Werke werden weltweit aufgeführt – von Europa über die USA bis nach Südkorea – und sind unter anderem bei Frank Music (Schweiz) und seinem eigenen Label „Mathias Wehr Music“ erschienen.
Sein musikalischer Werdegang be-gann früh: Bereits mit 16 Jahren nahm er ein Studium an der Musik-hochschule Nürnberg auf.
Nur wenige Jahre später errang er prestigeträchtige Auszeichnungen, darunter den Titel „European Conductor of the Year 2008“ in Norwegen und den Silbernen Taktstock beim World Music Conductors Contest in den Nieder-landen.
Heute ist Mathias Wehr als Chefdirigent, Komponist, Juror und Gastdirigent europaweit tätig. Neben internationalen Preisen wurde auch sein kulturelles Engagement in der Region mit Kulturpreisen aus Schwabach, Fürth und Forchheim gewürdigt.

To mark the 60th anniversary of the Stadtjugendkapelle Herzogenaurach, composer Mathias Wehr was commissioned to compose a piece. The work was based on a legend surrounding Eichelmühlgasse – the site where the Stadtjugendkapelle clubhouse now stands. The legend was kindly provided by the Herzogenaurach Local History Society.

Down the road not far from here
some time has passed since then
Digging all day long with no beer
soil for a goat or a hen
The sun rose high from the dead
Not much hotter it could get
Glittering on his forehead
Dripped the hard work’s sweat
A little man appeared from nowhere
As a dwarf or a goblin so small
Pointed near somewhere
„Dig there, money from heaven will fall“
As he baffled and tried to reflect
The goblin was long gone
He was afraid to look for whats hard to detect
Its a scary Place especially at dawn
He rushed home faster then ever
To find his wife and ask
if his worries were so clever?
If his soul and body were ready for this task?
The longer they talked
no conclusion in sight
they wondered if they have been stalked
by the devil with his filthy bite
In a drawer they looked for
the bible gods word
They brought it to place before
And dug like absurd
Coins over coins such valuable stone
From a time that long has passed
they bring the wealthy treasure home
They got rich noone would have guessed
Even if this sounds like the middle of a story
Something missing, some more to bend
Im telling you im really sorry

The Composer
Mathias Wehr (*1984) is a freelance conductor and composer. His compositions, including testpieces for international wind band and brass band competitions, such as for the Championship Division of the German Brass Band Championship, are published by Musikverlag Frank in Switzerland and by his own music label MathiasWehrMusic and performed worldwide. Thus, not only Austria and Switzerland, but also the USA and South Korea are among his destinations. Mathias Wehr began his music studies at the age of 16 at the Musikhochschule Nuremberg and then added wind orchestra conducting at the University of Augsburg. At 23, he won the official title of „European Conductor of the Year 2008“ at the 4th European Conductors Championship in Norway. Just one year later, he won the Silver Baton at the World Music Conductors Contest in Holland. As a composer and chief conductor of various orchestras, Mathias Wehr has already received numerous prizes and awards internationally. He has also been awarded the cultural prizes of the cities of Schwabach, Fürth and Forchheim for his regional musical commitment. As a juror and guest conductor, he works with wind orchestras and brass bands throughout Europe.
